A scenic off trail adventure to check out some of the nice view points around the Valley of the Dinosaurs.
Coming from Capartee head along Glen Davis Road and as you get close to the cliffs you will see a small dirt road appear on your left. It isn't sign posted or marked in any way that would signify it is the start of the valley. On Google maps if you search Airlie Turrett Capartee you will find the turn off - just don't drive too far down the dirt road because it becomes a 4wd track pretty quickly as it starts ascending.
Park the car off the dirt road careful not to obstruct anyone who lives and works on the surrounding property. If you have a high clearance 4wd you could probably drive most of the way to the top - although it would kind of defeat the purpose of the hike. Walking up the dirt road you will quickly ascend passing a few average view points along the way. When you arrive at the top of Genowlan you will be greeted by a small cairns and absolutely no views to speak of. On the way back down you will be looking for a place to get off the fire trail and start heading towards the valley. There aren't any obvious markers to speak of, so a GPS will assist you immensely. Getting off the track you will bush bash through the relatively open scrub quickly coming upon the entry to the valley. Skirt around to the left of that looking for rough trails that lead you to the iconic viewing point for the valley. When you are finished there backtrack and then head down into the gorge - here you will intercept a fairly well travelled trail that leads to the bottom of the valley and continues all the way to a firetrail. This firetrail will ascend and reintercept the firetrail you left at the top of the valley. There is a nice sidetrail into a giant cave that is well worth a visit. Return via the same firetrail back to the car.
