Mt View - Pokolbin Lookout

New South Wales

A nice gradual walk up well graded fireroads to the top of Mt View and the Pokolbin lookout - probably the best lookout in the Hunter valley region.

Getting there

Set your GPS to Amelies Pokolbin lookout - on Pokolbin Mountains Rd. The road turns to dirt passing Tinklers Winery.

Route/Trail notes

The start of the walk begins from a small carpark not far from Amelies cottage. Follow a well graded fireroad up the range. Google or a GPS may be required to locate the fireroad off to the right that diverts away from the main road to the lookout. Technically you could drive up to this point in a standard 2wd car - taking the rougher fireroad to the lookout itself (which is probably only 500 meters or so) would probably require a 4wd. The road has signs indicating it is private property but can be driven on so long as you don't wander off the road into any of the neighboring properties.

Super fun drive up the mountain, I would not recommend going during or after recent rain though. The top of the mountain was stunning, native flora out on full display. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a good drive and an easy walk.

Nice easy walk. The only difficult part is knowing when to turn off the main track to get to the lookout as there are a few roads that shoot off to the right. If you get to the telephone towers you've gone too far. Really nice outlook! Can see the whole Hunter Valley from up there.
