Situated around a large sandstone outcrop, the Sandstone Caves are a series of cathedral type caves and overhangs displaying an array of interesting colours and shapes. They have been formed over tens of thousands of years through the weathering of the fragile sandstone.
The Sandstone Caves are an Aboriginal site for the local Gamilaraay people. Grinding grooves, rock art and other Aboriginal sites provide a strong link with their traditional times.

Getting there:
Sandstone Caves are not sign posted from the Highway at the request of the Aboriginal Elders.
From Narrabri (85km), take the Newell Highway south and 4km beyond the Billy Creek crossing, turn left onto a dirt road marked Yaminba Trail and follow for 1km to the car park.
From Coonabarabran (34km), take the Newell Highway north and 3.7km beyond the Cusack Creek crossing, turn right onto a dirt road marked Yaminba Trail and follow for 1km to the car park.

Follow the pathway from the car park, before taking the left hand fork to travel clockwise around the sandstone outcrop to admire the view and climb into the various weathered caves.
