A short circular hike in Sydney’s north shore, suitable for hiking, jogging or mountain-biking. Follows a large water pipe down to Middle Harbour Creek... hence the name of the track.
Starts at Hunter St, St Ives (near intersection with Yarrabung Rd)
Follow the 4WD track along the pipeline from the Barra Brui scout hall in St Ives, on Hunter Avenue. After 900m there's an intersection is with Founders Way (this is an alternative starting point from Hunter St, which cuts about 1.8km from the circuit) and after another 200m you reach the junction with the Bungaroo Track. To do a circular walk, turn left down the Bungaroo Track. Continue down the track as it winds down through the forest, with short sections of boardwalk and well-constructed stone steps. Eventually the track reaches Middle Harbour Creek. Turn right (downstream) and follow the creek along a fairly rough track. It can be a bit faint (and overgrown) at times, but is always within a few metres of the creek. It’s only about 400m – although it can be a bit slow-going – before you reach the pipeline, which crosses Middle Harbour Creek. From here, it’s 2.4km back up the wide Pipeline Track to the starting point.
