Thirlmere Lakes

New South Wales

A fantastic birdwatching walk, Thirlmere Lakes walking track is unmarked but well-defined. Setting out from Couridjah picnic area, the flat, enjoyable 6km loop joins Dry Lakes Road and passes Werri Berri picnic area and Heritage Pump Station as you return along Slades Road. Even though there's no directional signage, you'll have no trouble finding your way.

Comments

Decided to visit these lakes as I heard they are slowly draining, possibly due to coal mining in the area :-( Unfortunately the lakes are not visible from the western side of the loop. The views can be accessed from both picnic grounds on the east side. Be on the look out for wombats, plenty of burrows around. There a few unofficial tracks through the reeds (for bird watchers) but these are hard to follow and like an endless maze.
