Wollangambe Canyon is an "easy" canyon in the Blue Mountains, requiring no technical skills (ie. abseils) – the Upper and Lower Sections can be done as separate day trips (or one very long day-trip). Great for a hot day, but you need to prepared - bring a lilo and have a topographical so you know when to look out for the exit.
Starts at Cathedral Reserve Camping Ground in Mount Wilson (Blue Mountains). Take the firetrail across the road from the camping ground.
8931-2S Wollangambe (1:25,000)
8930-1N Mount Wilson (1:25,000)
The firetrail is fairly flat except for a small ascent up a hill for about 2.2km, before you reach the narrow track that descends steeply to the Wollangambe River for 1.4km. Once you reach the Wollangambe, head down... there is one steep section where a rope has been left (be very careful if jumping down as there's a submerged rock). Wollangambe Lower Section is arguably a bit harder than the Upper Section - allow 6-7 hours for the trip. Keep an eye out for the exit at Wollangambe MGA572925 (there's a small exit sign attached to a tree where you finish). The exit track is a litlte rough and steep initially, before it becomes a wide fire trail. More detailed track notes below.
