Getting there:

From Darwin, head 317km south on the Stuart Highway to the town of Katherine. In the centre of town, turn left onto Gorge Road, signposted to Nitmiluk/Katherine Gorge and follow this for 26km to the Visitor Centre car park.

Route/Trail notes:

From the Visitor Centre, take the pathway down towards the boat ramp and then pick up the trail from behind the toilet block. There is then a stead uphill climb to Baruwei Lookout, which in some placed goes between the boulders and along laddered walkways.

Continue on the track along the top of the escarpment to the water storage and treatment centre. From there, the track twists and turns downhill to arrive next to the roadway just south of the Visitor Centre.

lovely walk, great view of the gorgo, very steep steps to the summit but well worth the view

Had spent the morning cruising the gorges and swimming in Lily Pond, so this was a welcome change to get an eagle eye view of the river, 1st Gorge and the surrounding escarpments.
