Escape the crowds and take a meandering journey through acacia woodlands and grassed clay pans. Discover the diverse plants, animals and geological features of the park. From Kuniya Piti you can follow the snake-like grooves along the base of the rock where Kuniya journeyed to Mutitjulu Waterhole. Encounter bloodwoods, native grasses and waterways. The Base Walk is the best way to fully appreciate the natural and cultural beauty of Uluru.
Travel into the National Park from Yulara and head to the Mala Car Park (signposted) at the base of Uluru.
Uluru and Kata Tjuta Visitor Guide
From the car park, turn to the left or right and follow the well defined track around the base of Uluru back to the start. Detouring into Kantju Gorge and Mutitjulu Waterhole on the way.
Admission to the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park costs $25 per adult (2019) and provides a three or more day pass. Passes are non-transferable and are scanned/checked at the Ranger Station.
You have a few different options to circumnavigate Uluru: walk, cycle, segway or drive.
The walk can be done as shorter sections, or you can just visit the Mutitjulu Waterhole and Kantju Gorge, via the short access tracks. (The Uluru Climb has been closed since October 2019.)
Don't forget your fly mesh!
