Login/signup to tick this walk off.this is one of the best walks I've done. 6kms or so up a deep gorge with lots of waterfalls and then up onto the heights above before descending again and crossing the river back to carpark. stunning views and lots to see.
the entrance to the national park is well signposted from the coastal road running from senj to zadar.
Which maps cover the area?
follow the well graded, easy and impossible to get lost trail following the river on a very gentle uphill gradient, with steeper sections near the end as you climb up above the river and reach the mountain refuge where you can get a refreshment or meal in non pandemic times. now take the steep and much more footpad like track directly in front of the refuge. after a very scrabbly, steep climb the trail eventually flattens out and continues like this for a long way, with incredible views of the mountains and eventually, of the Adriatic ahead of you. You will pass ancient stone walls, ruined hamlets, a set of standing stones left to mark the spot where people who died on the mountain had their body laid down as there spirit left their body. An amazing spot. By the way, there are really good information boards all along the trail. there are several opportunites to take turns to the right and down back to the car park. If you follow my gpx you take a trail that drops steeply, almost vertical, on a very scrabbly path that takes a lot of care. it ends abruptly at the river. At this time of year, winter, it requires taking off your shoes and carefully crossing, being wary of the strong current.
A truly spectacular hike. if you are ever in Croatia, do it!
there is a 30 kuna/4 euro/six AUD entrance fee to the park.
How can I find more info? Any guide books?
