Login/signup to tick this walk off.Fukuurajima is an island that you can reach from the Japanese mainland via bridge. Matsushima is considered to be one of the 3 views of Japan. The bay is littered with small islands that house unique vegetation. Fukuurajima itself is one of those islands. It has been designated a prefectural park and is protected. On the island you can view the unique plantlife and get some views of the Matsushima Bay. For the best view of the bay, I recommend taking a boat tour.
Begin by either driving to Matsushima and parking at one of the carparks on the main street or taking the train to either Matsushima Kaigan station or Matsushima station. From the station, plug Fukuurajima into Google Maps and follow directions. You can't miss it, just follow the massive red bridge that crosses over to the island.

To access the trail, you have to buy a ticket to enter the island. There is a ticket booth at the base of the bridge. It is 200 yen for adults. After buying a ticket, walk across the bridge. There is not set path per say, just follow the concrete path around the island and stop along the way at things that tickle your fancy. There are a lot of detours and curiosities along the way.
Your main goal should be to walk around the whole island which is more than doable within an hour. If you are feeling pekish they have a cafe on the island. There is also a public toilet and a small park.
Once you feel you have seen everything you need to, follow signs for the bridge and then return to the mainland.
