Rated by the Singaporean government as the most difficult hike in the entire country, The MacRitchie Reservoir loop is surprisingly easy, with no elevation gains. The only thing is distance. Along the path you can see wild monkeys (a lot of wild monkeys), snakes, big lizards and unique birds. While the track through the jungle is great, the real highlight is the variety of wildlife that seems to be just everywhere that you look.
To get to this hike, take the MRT to Caldecott station and then walk to MacRitchie Park. At the park, there is a toilet, shower, lockers and a cafe. From the park, the hike begins.
Google maps baby.
First go up to the lake and walk along the edge (lake on your left side). Here you will reach a fork in the road, either towards the MacRitchie Nature trail or along a board walk. You can take either path, but personally I think that the board walk is more scenic. The board walk links up with the nature trail so you aren't missing out on anything.
Monkeys usually cut about the board walk so don't be surprised if you bump into any.
After finishing the first board walk, there should be a second board walk. Continue along this and then go up towards the nature trail. Once linked up with the nature trail, follow signs towards tree-top walk.
The nature trail will take you through some deep rain forest and you should be able to see a lot of wildlife.
Once you reach the tree-top walk, cross the bridge and continue along. Until you reach another crossroad that points you in the direction of Jelutang tower. You can climb the tower for views over the rainforest.
From the tower, follow signs for the golf-link course. This will take you inbetween the lake and some golf course that you warns about how it is dangerous to cross into the gold course as you might cop a golf ball to your head (?), like you are safer if you are playing golf on the course.
Once you clear the golf-link you will be faced with a choice again. Either board walk or forest. I personally prefer board walk, so I took this path, but forest path is also okay.
This should link you back to the park where you started.
