Aussie Bushwalking can keep track of your bushwalks.
Login/signup to tick this walk off. This is not much of a hike. There is a solid concrete path and road that takes you directly from the train station at Shifen to the waterfall. The viewpoints around the waterfall are incredibly crowded and can somewhat disrupt the view. I recommend going early to beat the tourists.
Get to the start of this walk by taking the train to Shifen station. Is it also possible to drive to the car park at the waterfall. Be warned that trains to Shifen are infrequent and requires some prior planning if coming from Taipei.

Begin the hike from Shifen station. Walk through the jam packed street next to the rail line. One you clear all of the shops and the people start thining out, you should see signs in both English and Mandarin pointing you towards the waterfall. Follow the signs, it is quite straight forward. The path will take you past a variety of stores and street food stalls. Once past this, you should see a carpark and a massive sign indicating the waterfall is ahead. First thing is that you cross a bridge of questionable structural integrity. There should be a smallish waterfall that you can see from the bridge. This is not Shifen falls. Continue onwards through a pseudo-forest along the river until you read another block of food stalls. Keep walking past this and there will be a second bridge of also questionable structural integrity. Cross the bridge and it should give you an amazing view of the waterfall. There are several vantage points that you can see the waterfall from. If it tickles your fancy you can continue along the path into the forest were there is also a good lookout of the falls.
