Lamb's Head and Kahlpahlim Rock

Far North Queensland

This a a fantastic and varied hike to the summit of Lamb's Head. Walk would range between 4-6hrs depending on fitness levels and stoppages. I recommend taking a few litres of water and some snacks. It is best during the dry winter season. The views at the top are absolutely amazing and there are several viewing points if you follow the 'sometimes hard' to see small pink ribbons. One view faces north/north-east over Cairns and the other is west/north-west. It truely is the one of the best hikes in the region. Afterwards you can find many beautiful rock pools at Davies Creek to swim in.

Getting there

How do you get to the start of the walk?

From Cairns drive trough Kuranda as if to go to Mareeba but turn in to Davis Creek Rd (Davie Creek National Park). Follow the road, which turns to dirt, along unitl you pass the Davies Creek lower camp sites and waterfall. You will also pass the upper creek campsites of 3-4 and then find the sign on your left for the start of the walk.

Comments

Was more challenging than I expected - as I expected it to largely be quite a flat walk. Really enjoyed the hike, was a little bit wet and leechy but the uphill sections were nice training for doing Bartle Frere the following day. Even though it was quite cloudy at the top it would occasionally clear and we could get views all the way out to Cairns.

My favourite day walk in the Wet Tropics region. A challenging walk that takes you through beautiful forest country before rewarding you with one of the most breathtaking views in the north.
