Route/Trail notes

Begin at the far end of the Carpark along the path that takes you into the rainforest.  Follow the track in an anti-clockwise direction following the signs.  This path is well maintained, but there are rocks along the path in places.  Before you get to the end, where the sign directs you either to the Carpark or further along the path, you can continue on to a platypus viewing platform.  Broken river is the best place in Queensland to see a platypus and a sighting can pretty much be guaranteed if the conditions are right meaning, not sunny.  Come either at dusk or dawn or on an overcast day to see a platypus.

Comments

My daughter and I walked along the paved path to the viewing platform about 1pm. We were blessed to spot 2 platypus within 5 minutes of waiting. Also saw a little snake sunning itself on the board walk.

very easy walk through lush rainforest. you can see platypus from the viewing platform at dawn or dusk and youre willing to wait a few minutes quietly.

The signs from the local school kids are very cute and actually informative.

The rainforest section isn't really different from other rainforests in Australia. But good to see platypuses

I have been here several different times and pretty much every time have seen heaps of platypi. Best to take a picnic (and binoculars for up close views) and get comfortable next to the creek to see the platypus. I wouldn't recommend going there after heavy rain as the river is too rough for any animal viewing.

Easy parking and plenty of facilities at this easy walk.

A nice easy walk. We saw quite a few platypuses at three different lookouts. Fantastic!
