Federation Walk

This is an easy 3km walk (6km if you go to the end and back) along a well made path through the sand dunes of The Spit. It's perhaps the closest walk to Surfers Paradise and provides a unique insight into the coastal dune network.
The walk starts at the beach carpark on the opposite side of the road from the entrance to Sea World (you'll need to go around the roundabout to get to the carpark). It's basically a 3km stretch of sand dunes, beach and sheoak trees and the path is made of compacted gravel, so it's easy to walk on. There are a couple of small inclines, but nothing too dramatic. The path ends at the Gold Coast Seaway where, on a clear day, you can get an excellent view south down the beach along the entire stretch of the Gold Coast right down to Coolangatta. You can then turn around and walk 3km back, or have someone pick you up at the end.
Take plenty of water on a hot day because there are only amenities at the start and finish of the walk and parts of the track have no shade.

A hot walk on a really cold day. The ground is loose and sandy in places, particularly near the sand pumping station. You wouldn’t get a wheel chair through there. We took a walk into the Jetty at the sand pumping pipeline. There’s a cost of $2.20 for that. We also picked up a coffee at the kiosk near the road and walked out on the rock wall at the mouth of the river before walking back.

This was a really nice walk even on an incredibly windy day. Nice and easy along the path but picturesque coastline.

I don't know how accurate the rating of "Very Easy" is. There are parts that are sand (the cross over point where the little shop is and the desalinisation pipe goes out into the ocean) so the pic of someone in a wheelchair could be a little misleading. Anyway, we parked as stated across from SeaWorld and walked up to the seawall. A wonderful walk with small inclines, mostly shaded. We then did the return walk along the beach. A highlight is the off leash dog area and walking through all the happy dogs and owners, if you are not a dog lover than this may not be your cup of tea but you don't have to return along the beach. Such a wonderful track if you want the best of both worlds.. surf and turf :) Plenty of parking available and the track is easy to follow.. you cant get lost. If you chose to walk back along the beach back to your car, just keep an eye out for the car park, other wise you could quite easily just keep on walking.

Really nice Sunday walk. Overcast day so wasn't too hot. Had trouble finding the start point so ended up walking 2km over the actual walk. There was lots of species of birds with a beautiful beach backdrop. I would recommend to anyone wanting to partake in a flat enjoyable walk next to the beach.

I use to run this track daily when living in Surfer Paradise. There use to be some good gym equipment along the way
