Walk between Dove Lake and the Ronny Creek carpark past Lake Lilla at Cradle Mountain. Lucky walkers will find wombats feeding beside the boardwalk in the Ronny Creek valley.
Getting there
Start the walk from either Dove Lake or the Ronny Creek carpark. The free shuttle bus will deliver you to either location.
Maps
Pick up a map from the information centre before you start.
Route/Trail notes
The track is well signposted and free tourist map can be obtained at the visitor centre.
From Dove Lake turn right on to the Dove Lake circuit towards the boat shed. The Lake Lilla track branches off only a few hundred metres along the track before you reach the boatshed (if you haven't visited it, it's worth continuing on to the boatshed for a visit before returning to the Lake Lilla turnoff). Stay on this track, ignoring the turn off to Wombat Pool until you reach the bridge over Ronny Creek. Turn right here to head to the Ronny Creek carpark, ignoring tracks to Crater Lake and the Waldheim cabins.
From Ronny Creek cross the road and follow the boardwalk alongside Ronny Creek. Cross the bridge, ignoring the turnoff to Waldheim then turn left on to the Lake Lilla track. Follow this through until you reach the Dove Lake Circuit. Turn left to return directly to the carpark, or take a short detour to the right to visit the iconic Dove Lake boatshed.
Permits/Costs
You will need a National Parks Pass for Tasmania, but this will give you access to the free shuttle bus that runs between the information centre and all of the car parks in Cradle Mountain meaning that when you finish your walk it won't matter that you are in a different place.
