Coal Mines Historic Site

East Coast

Lesser known than Port Arthur though arguable a more authentic experience and its free. While Port Arthur has been rebuilt quite a bit the coal mines is a more untouched ruin. When we were there we were also the only people.

Comments

This was an easy and interesting walk around the old Coal Mines site. Not much of the buildings remain but the illustrated signs give you an idea of how the buildings once looked. Some areas have been restored quite well. A wonderful area to explore on a quiet day.

This was a leisurely stroll and it was lovely not to have many people around - gave you time to contemplate the area and take any pics. It is also a great location for a packed lunch due to its peacefulness. Great views some of the higher ranking people would have had in the day!
