Challenging track with steep sections , scrambling over boulders and crossing the Western Creek waterfall makes for a very fun hike. Do NOT attempt this one if you are unfit, inexperienced or ill-prepared. This is for the more serious of hikers/walkers.
From Western Creek head for Westrope Road ( your Sat Nav will locate this unsealed rd) . Follow through the state forest till you see the signs indicated to take road on the left, a steep rooad will lead you to the car park. Sign is then easy to spot to mark the start of the track.

The first 1km of the track is steep , rough and plenty of boulders to scramble over. This lead to Western Creek waterfall which is tricky to cross ( steel rope attached to aid but take care one wrong slip and it's down the fall you go ) follow track to the top. There it becomes a plateau, you wil walk past Whitley's Hut to the saddle below Mt ironstone where the track ends.
Tasmania does have some charges for some parks ( I head a 2 month park pass allowing me to access various but do check )
Just Google Ironstone and you will find a few blogs from people whom have pics and maps on their website
