Started at top of mountain (picnic area). Creek crossing took longer than expected with pretty high water. Saw a beautiful Python underneath a bolder. Bush bashing in the dark on the way up from Platypus pool after scrambling up the gorge. Turned up to be a long day (~10hrs)

Always a good hike to the hole. Went beyond the water pool this time, over and down the hill into the creek and carried on with some rock hoping

Have done this walk a few times and I highly recommend it. It is short whilst still challenging enough with some steeper sections and scrambling bits. Great view at the top! Doable by most people.

Hi and thanks to all who contribute here with comments and descriptions. Really helpful! Yes, there are about 4 gullies to cross once you find the start of the track. Thank you to the person (or people) who marked the track! great! We generally had no issue finding the way although there was one occasion where the red paint was quite awkwardly placed on a slab that I chose not to use :) We started the hike this Sat around 1pm on a semi cloudy day. Great weather for it and the time wasn't too bad as far as the sun was facing. We were at about 310m high (at 2.30pm) when I realised that MY descend was going to be a very slow crab/bum sliding down so I chose to stop there so I don't risk a night scramble down (my friend was speedy Gonzalas so he head no issues with it :) Quite enjoyed the climb up but coming back down was a struggle for me. The little bushes can be a nuisance at times and not much to hold on to, so you need to rely on the rock which is quite grippy when NOT wet. It took me 2 hours to descend from 310m so I made the right call to turn back! I'm a slow descender so I need to give this hike more time in the day :) However, this is definitely not a 2 hour hike whoever entered that above! :) |

Wonderful. Perfect day for it too, cloudy but dry. Went up Waterfall gorge and down Palm gorge, which is a bit easier to descend. Took about 5 hours with stops and large group. The terrain changes from fire trail in the beginning to rock hoping and scrambling. The two gorges also are quite different to each other. On the outside, large flat rocks slightly resembling Girraween (the gorge is like a miniature Carnavorn). Beautiful green tropical trees through the gorges and bushes on the outside. Care to be taken to follow the path through the Waterfall gorge. About an hour in it, there is a path on the left side which will continue through the forest just above the gorge and then comes back into the gorge. If you don't take this and go up the rocks be mindful of falling rocks.

Did a full circuit of Flinders peak to summit. Most of the hike is on well defined track but at some point you need to ascend through bush (some difficulty navigating through dense bush. Topo map and GPS trail useful ). Easy enough to find trail down from the summit (keep to the ridge). Cover arms, legs and hands. Hike took longer than anticipated (8 hours) but the group was various and large. Apparently we did about 18km on the day.

Mt Barney. LOVED the scrambling & views while ascending on SE and then the last bit of descending on Peasants ridge (the little Forrest amphitheater and path down to the base of the mountain - gorgeous :) Legs and arms were pretty sore for 24 hours afterwards. Everything that others said here is relevant. It is a difficult hike that requires pretty good navigational experience and endurance. Hope to do it again and maybe other ridges after that.

I did this walk after I heard it is the hardest in the area. It is indeed a good cardio challenge but I wouldn't recommend it in the hottest parts of the day, especially in the hot seasons. It is quite exposed and dusty on the way up. Good views from the top.

This was my second time on Mount Maroon and I loved it just like the first. Great time to spend half of your day with a solid scramble / hike up & down this beautiful mountain sitting at around 950m high. Gorgeous views.

Finally reached the top of Tibro after waiting for a year to be opened again. This is a psychological challenge just as much as a physical one. Once you overcome the first, then it is doable by anyone with some level of fitness. The scary bit is coming to terms with the fact that you have to scramble your way down and not going to roll down the hill instead! :) If you watch your feet and test the rocks before you use them, you will be fine. Most of them are pretty solid. Don't try to pull them out to see how solid they are though! Be considerate of other hikers :)

LOOOVED it. I think the walk is about 30km all up. Terrain changes from beautiful tropical bush walking to large cave like walls with aboriginal paintings, and gorge rock hoping. Then more bush walking to the top. Flat to steep ground, the hike has everything. Care to be taken when in the gorge to spot the white arrow marker to the top of the gorge. Part of the wall is man carved with steps to aid us (thank you park rangers!).
