Lower Kalimna Falls

Great Otway National Park

A walk near the Great Ocean Road that follows an old trolley way that was used for hauling timber many years ago. It takes you to a waterfall that falls over an overhang into a pool below.

Getting there

From Lorne on the Great Ocean Road, turn right onto Bay Street and follow it up the hill to the end. Turn right onto George Street. When you come to the roundabout, take the first exit onto Allenvale Road. Allenvale Road becomes unsealed. Follow this for 3.5km till you come to the Sheoak Picnic Area. The walk starts from across the road.

Route/Trail notes

This is a fairly level track that mostly has a gentle incline apart from one place where it seems to go over a hill. The track continues past the Lower Kalimna Falls to Upper Kalimna Falls, so watch out for the track that branches off to the right. It is clearly signed. The waterfall is very nice, surrounded by tree ferns. You can actually get into the cave behind the waterfall quite easily by following a track.

Permits/Costs

There is no cost.

Comments

This waterfall very much reminded us of Buderim Falls in QLD without all the people. It was really hot today, so maybe that's why no-one else was there, but it is a really nice waterfall, and a nice track to get to it.
