Mount Edwards

This hiking track takes you to the summit of Mt Edwards, the taller, conical-shaped peak beside Moogerah Dam. This trail crosses the dam wall then leads to the top the mountain with an elevation gain of almost 500m to really get your heart pumping. There is a lookout part-way up the track with views of Little Mt Edwards/Reynolds Creek below the dam wall, while the lookout at the summit faces north-east towards Brisbane and the Fassifern Valley.

Officially listed as Grade 5/Very Hard difficulty (unsigned trail, loose/rocky surface, some tree falls/overgrown sections + steep incline), this trail is suitable for walkers with a moderate-high fitness level who are confident and well prepared (wear appropriate shoes, take plenty of water etc.).

When someone asks me about doing this climb I describe it as “the perfect mountain” because it is a perfect amount of challenge and ease. For me there are only 2 very small sections that make my heart freeze abit but the rest is just perfect fun scrambling it’s actually quite easy but a good workout. Views are completely worth it. Gozaisho 御在所 (Mie Prefecture)

Gozaisho is a beautiful mountain tucked away in rural Mie, near the border of Aichi and Gifu. It has a collection of unqiue rock formations and is the starting point for some great hikes across the Suzuka Mountain range. For those who are too lazy to do the hike or are using it as a base to do something a bit longer, you can take the ropeway to the top. During winter, the peak turns into a mini ski field.

Somerset Trail

A pleasant circular walk through open and pine forest as well as pockets of rainforest. At around the halfway point, there are a series of lookouts over Somerset Dam to the north and Lake Wivenhoe to the south, with a backdrop of the far mountain ranges.

This area was heavily logged, hence the saw mill at The Gantry and evident by the 'plank' groves on some of the old tree stumps.
