Route/Trail notes

Follow the Pacific Esplanade north, step over the stones and follow the trail. At the beginning it is a bit overgrown with grass but easy to see and soon opens up.

Follow this trail until a big clearing /4 path intersection.

Turn left and follow central trail.

On the next big clearing turn left again and follow Optus trail.

Once you reach the houses walk back via Flinders Way, Banool Circuit, Shara Boulevard and the Helen Street all the way via the foot bridge back to Pacific Esplanade and the Car.

On the corner there is a nice coffee place for a rest or lunch.

Comments

A local note to all visitors that this is a nature reserve and so dogs are NOT permitted. It is a very vulnerable area for local fauna and flora. There are allocated dog beach areas but the trail and the beach area parallel to the trail are NO dog areas. We would appreciate that this is respected - off leash or on. Dog urine is distasteful to wildlife and so even that scent affects many species.

Little bit of water on the track - but fully expected given the rain in the area.
Took to the beach for the last section which just added to the walk.
Great transition of flora.

Lovely bush walk through paperbarks, then onto stunning South Golden Beach where we saw whales breaching!

We followed the Trail Notes but wanted to add some extra info:

NO DOGS - we took ours and only noticed the NO DOG signs once we entered the walk - as we had travelled some way to get to the walk we went ahead with our small dog on the lead but I wouldn't advise it as it is a Nature Reserve and I am sure the locals would not appreciate it !

SIDE NOTE: - we started at the south end of Pacific Esplanade BUT you can drive along this road until you reach the rocks if you just want to start at the bush ( you would still need to walk down it on the way back to get to your car though)

TRAIL NOTE: follow trail until it open up to a big clear 4 path section.
SIDE NOTE: there is a "smaller" open clear area with 4 trails first - go past this - through another lot of rocks until you hit a "larger" 4 path trail section ( the path on the left is more like road size than the trail so far)

SIDE NOTE - OPTUS TRAIL - towards the end of the Optus Trail there are two decent hills. Not hard but could be tricky for those not so mobile

SIDE NOTE- at the end of the trail when you reach the houses go RIGHT along the road ( Flinders) Right at Banool, Left at Shara ( Main intersection) Right at Kolora then Left at Helen street strigh over the bridge back to the carpark.
