From Coonabarabran  travel along Timor Road, which then becomes John Renshaw Parkway. Once inside the National Park the lookout car park is about 3km on your left.

From Tooraweenah, follow John Renshaw Parkway right the way through the National Park to the far end and then turn right into the lookout car park.

As you drive in from the east, entertain the children as you follow the 'Virtual Solar System' that leads to Siding Spring Observatory at the National Park entrance.

For those wishing to stay for a couple of days to explore more of the walks, Camp Blackman provides excellent facilities, with fantastic views of the surrounding mountains as you sit around your campfire.

In January 2013 a catastrophic bush fire destroyed over 90% of the National Park, as well as surrounding properties. Both the habitat and those creatures that lived there were lost. Regeneration is slow and only nature will help the area recover to its former glory.

Short walk but worth it as the lookout is great and have some really nice information about the geology of the area.

Short walk with a great overview of the park. Well worth the stop.

Unfortunately, due to extreme weather conditions, all the main walks had been closed today for safety reasons. This left us with Wambelong and Whitegum. The lookout was easily the best introduction to what we were missing, with fantastic view of Split Rock, Belougery Spire, Breadknife and many more.
