Getting there

Begin the hike by first taking the train to one of the many Arashiyama stations, whether this be Saga-Arashiyama or the Hankyu-Arashiyama station. I do not recommend driving. From the train station, follow Google maps to the monkey park. At the base of the mountain there will be a place to buy a ticket. Adults are 550 yen. After buying a ticket proceed through the gate and hike up the mountain. It is one way and virtually impossible to get lost. 

Route/Trail notes

The trail is mostly concrete with a stair case. The views up the mountain are not particularly exciting. The real treat is at the top. At the top there are a lot of monekys. Beware of the monkeys, do not stare them in the eyes or get too close. They can attack or play pranks.
