Route/Trail notes

From the carpark, there is a noticeable track next to the massive signboard and map. At the gate there is a donation box where you have to pay 300 yen to enter. After paying, continue along the path.

The boardwalk will take you past a lot of waterfalls. Some more impressive than others.

Once finishing the boarded section, there will be a fork in the road, take the left fork that says 8km on the sign. This will take you through a non-descript and not particularly interesting forest section.

At the end of this section there will be another fork in the road, look for the signs that say 根尾の滝 Neo no Taki and follow those up an old deserted road. Walk along this road for an hour until you reach a decrepited carpark. From there enter the forest and take the hiking path down 16 switchbacks to a river.

Note: When I did this hike, the bridge that crosses the river had collapsed and was impassable. I attempted to wade across the river, but the water was too deep and the current from the surrounding waterfalls was too strong. I was unable to venture past this and actually see Neo Falls.

If the bridge has been reparied, continue along it and follow the path to Neo Falls.

On the way back, once you reach the fork in the road, instead of following the same way back, take the right option that takes you past two other waterfalls.

After checking out the waterfalls, head back to the carpark and be off on your merry way.
