Japan

An underated hike out in the middle of nowhere in Nagano prefecture. Mind-blowing waterfalls and epic adventure over suspension bridges.

Getting there

You can either get to this hike by car or by train. Car is definetly the easier of the two options. Type Tadachi no taki into Google Maps and follow the road along route 19 until you see the turn off for the waterfalls. Drive up the dodgey road until you reach the carpark.

If coming by public transport, take the Chuo line to Tadachi Station and then walk to the car park. The train station is pretty far from the trail head so good luck. There is a campsite just below the trail head so feel free to stay there the night before.

Route/Trail notes

Begin the walk by going through some forest. Follow the obvious trail over the less than loved track. There will be a few broken bridges along the way, but should enough stable ground to pass by them no problem. Along the path, take the right for Rasen no taki which is the first of the big boi waterfalls you'll encounter.

Head back to the path and continue straight. Here you'll encounter the next big boi waterfall. From here, you will climb a stair case and go up the waterfall where you will reach the third and most epic waterfall. From here, continue straight for a bit longer until you reach another turn off. Go right up the mountain for sweeping views of the region before turning back the way you came.
