This short stroll along the shady banks of Carnarvon Creek provides a snapshot of the plant life on the gorge floor. You can see turtles basking in the sun, and if you're quiet enough you may see the elusive platypus. Dusk and dawn provide the best opportunities for watching wildlife.
Drive into Carnarvon Gorge off the Carnarvon Highway via Carnarvon Access Road and follow to the end of the road, where there are the car parks and Information Centre.
The walk starts from outside of the Information Centre. Take the Main Gorge Trail for 100m and after rock hopping the creek, turn right along the path and follow it along the far side of the creek, before recrossing the creek and along the edge of the camping area back to the start.
None.
The Gorge is a long way out, so there are a number of places just outside of the National Park to camp: Takarakka Bush Camp, Wilderness Lodge and Sandstone Park and in the holiday season, Carnarvon Gorge Camping Area.
Gorge conditions change year on year due to storm and flood, so how you crisscross the creek may vary.
