Isla Gorge

Central Queensland

An easy walk from the camping ground along a rocky ridge to the end of a spur where you can view the spectacular gorge below. This is a landmark for those more intrepid walkers who venture down into the gorge where there are no set tracks. This is scrambling at its best - quite difficult and, in late September, very hot. We trekked down into the gorge and made our way through thick scrub to the other side to camp overnight. Heavy going with backpacks laden with water bottles. The return hike back up the spur to the camp grounds was quite arduous, but all in all, well worth the effort.

Stunning sandstone gorges, well worth stopping for the lookout. There are heaps of trails going off in multiple directions from the campground area throughout the gorge, you can pretty easily scramble down to the base of the valleys for some nice technical hiking in a beautiful area

An easy .6K walk but wow - what lovely scenery along the way. Cliff-faces/drops on either side as you walk along a spur, so be careful with kids.

1.3km off A5 Leichhardt Hwy between Taroom & Theodore, gorge opens up. Lovely. Nice walk out to the end of spur. Picnic table and toilets. Good break in journey nth or sth. Didn't try scrambling down rocks to explore bottom of gorge.

Did a short walk to the natural lookout which has views of the gorge on the left and right and at the end a stunning view of the Dawson River Valley. Take care if kids are with you as the there are steep drop-offs either side.
