Mt Hypipamee NP

Far North Queensland

A spectacular view down into a large volcanic diatreme (pipe crater) awaits you at the end of the track. The crater is filled with water and a thick carpet of pond weed. The trail back spits off to Dinner falls, a lovely cool cascade in rainforest

Getting there

Mount Hypipamee National Park is on the Kennedy Highway, 25 km south of Atherton. Atherton is 96 km from Cairns via the Kennedy Highway and 80 km via the Gillies Highway. The park can also be reached from Malanda (15 km) via a partially unsealed road.

A great little walk to the crater. Dinner Falls is a little different ... whilst short you do need decent footwear. Have seen ppl take a tumble a few times. Great for kids too (the walk ... not the tumbling .. ;) ... )

It was an easy walk to the crater. The colour of the water is a beautiful green/blue and the colour on the rockwall was very interesting.
Do go and have a look at the Dinner Falls while you are here.
Don't expect too much of it and you'll appreciate it then.

I used to come here as a child - long before the cueing platform and fence were erected. It never fails to mesmerise me. Very easy walk to share with lots of tourists.

A short walk to an amazing place. Worth the stop for sure.

An amazing place - looking down into the crater from the platform was a bit of a thrill!
