The Freshwater and Lagoon trails form a 7.2 km circuit around the coastal wetlands of the Town Common Conservation Park. This is a beautiful area to explore, full of birdlife, great photo opportunities and so close to the city of Townsville
Located a short 7km drive from Townsville CBD, along Cape Pallarenda Road, turn off at Rowes Bay Golf Course, follow the unsealed road for 5km to reach the Town Common nature reserve.
From the carpark at Town Common Conservation Park, start out along Freshwater Trail which covers 3.6km and provides access to two bird-hides. Freshwater bird-hide is about 200m from the carpark. Following Freshwater Trail in either direction will link up with Lagoon Trail, also 3.6km, so in total the circuit is 7.2km. The trail is shared between hikers and mountain bikers. There are loads of opportunities for bird watching and photography across the wetlands and salt pans. The trail circuit is relatively flat, some sections of gravel and uneven ground, but mostly easy walking.
