A paved but very steep walk leads 700 metres uphill through a small area of rainforest, then winds up through eucalyptus woodland to a fire tower. There is a 360 degree view of the Glass House Mountains and other parts of South East Queensland from the summit. On a clear day, Brisbane CBD is visible too. When descending the fire tower, go down backwards as you would with any ladder, several people have tried to go down forward and had very nasty accidents.

Route/Trail notes:

From the trailhead car park, a zigzag track leads you up through the trees to the old car park. From hear you have a steep hike on the paved fire tower access road, that doesn't end until you are at the top. Some seats along the way to take a rest on. Great views from the first floor of the fire tower.

Return by the same route.

Permits/Costs:

None.

Other References/Comments:

Get to the track before lunchtime to enjoy your time at the top and take plenty of water.

Great view from the top.

Fun little walk!

Good quick leg killer, I parked just off the street and walked up the road to the start for a little longer walk.
Views were great

Steep relentless 700 metres up a paved path. Gets very slippy on the way down and be super-careful of leaves, not that I'd know anything about that from a few years ago.

Nothing extreme here, just a steep paved path. Great views from the top though.

It's quite short, only took about 45min return?

PeterN on 13 Aug, 2016

A paved and safe climb but the elevation is a gut buster.

TonyS on 7 Aug, 2016

A short steep walk, definitely need to combine with another walk. Good to do but once was enough.

Very simple walk, easily completed in a matter of 15 minutes or so..

A great little leg killer with no respite. Usually I leave this to the last mountain of the day just to finish me off: one of the best lookouts in the Glasshouse Mountains and always a pleasure to view. The first time I ever did this I ascended to the top tier of the tower where there was a ranger inside, however since then I've since seen a sign on the trapdoor that you're not really meant to be in there - still at the time I didn't realise and he never said anything to me - so if it's open and you fancy a chat, try your luck!

If you feel like making this harder, park on Beerburrum-Woodford Road. From there you can walk the access track to the main carpark too, or just bush bash straight from the road into the forest - there is a disused 4WD trail that runs parallel to Beerburrum-Woodford Road and turning right (east) on it will lead you to the access track for the main carpark.

My wife and I walked up at 8am in our sandals, not really a good idea.
Even so it took about half an hour to get up and the same back down, not one for the unfit. Great views from the top. Got more Mossie bites in that hour than I had in my lifetime!

Fantastic view. Lookout up the top that I don't know if we were supposed to be allowed up. However, there was a reclusive little bushfire ranger up there that allowed us up and told us a little about it. Didn't realize it was such a steep climb until we started going, but by then it was too late!

Easy to get to. Good, well-formed (read: concrete) path with zero objective danger. Outstanding views, I felt like I could see to Perth. The drawback is that it is unbelievably steep in parts. Good for a challenge but less so for the casual plodder expecting Mount Ainslie.

I love this crazy walk, 700m of torture :'). Always seem to forget how steep it is... Awesome views, great little climb!

Holy calf muscles!!

We definitely felt the burn on this one!! Great training mountain, so will add it to our 'summit challenge'.

View from the fire tower was spectacular and worth the pain. However, we were plagued with mozzies all the way up and flies at the top, making it uncomfortable to stop for very long and enjoy the view.

1hr round trip with miss 6 and miss 8. Would be very slippery on the descent in wet weather.

Its a good walk, yes its steep but plenty of places to stop for a break. Great views on the way up and from the tower at the top.
Its a concrete path the whole way, just watch your footing on the way down because the leaves on the path can get slippery. My kids (9 and 7 ) did it without any drama's

Good aerobic workout, easy walk though all flat surfaces slightly elevated. Great lookout up top.

Steep hike! Little intervals of running! Great views of other mountains

Lovely climb to the top even a good one after Mt Tibrogargan...

Breathtaking view. Although after the steep hike to the top, I'm not sure I had much breath for it to take :)
