Spicers Peak West

Main Range National Park

We have ventured to this part a couple of times now and still find it a challenge worth doing.
Nothing massively hard in the climb to the top except when we last did the climb and indeed every time before that we were carrying way too much weight.

We followed the old track up from Governors Chair lookout for about 3.5km until seeing a clearing on the left hand side of the road.
From there we left the road to find the bigger of the the spurs that lead to the main ridge. The climb up the spur did get a bit steep towards the ridge and was quite soft dirt under foot so takes a bit of time to get through. We like to do things the hard way ...(:

Once on the ridge the route does get a bit easier for a while with a gental climb for a couple of hundred meters.
From there it gets steeper and rockier with some minor obstacles and scrambling.
Camping before reaching the overgrown part on a grassy outcrop, we have an awesome view of the Darling Downs district and the sun set.
As much as like new places, this mountain keeps me coming back for more.
Maybe it's because it's not as popular as other walks near by.

Did as a day hike, took about 10 hours as trail was overgrown and lots of debris to navigate. Quite slippery after rain with scrambling and slippery mud. I thought this one was quite difficult but still absolutely spectacular!

Did the loop from Governor's Chair Lookout to East Peak then to West Peak and back to the carpark. It's fairly rough going from east to west peak (personally I was stung by gympie gympie 6 times). This is nothing compared to the descent down from the west peak - this was probably the most rugged terrain I have encountered on a hike in SEQ (not even a semblance of a path until hitting the 4x4 track). Absolutely not worth doing the west peak whatsoever, unless you're a seriously dedicated peakbagger.

Did this as a day trip and all up took around 8 hrs. Never again!!!

Never again West Peak. Decided to make a detour from the East Peak to see what the West Peak had to offer, and after around an hour of bushbashing, prickles, falling over, constantly losing the track and having to use the GPS we discovered it had very little to offer. There may be views from the cliffline but from the actual summit it's just scrub. Reminded me of Mount Samson only Mt Samson almost had a proper track.

Nice hike. Bit of rock scrambling. This is a one-day hike and took us about 5-6 hours return.
