A very long day walk (or bike ride) from Darlington, or easily accessible from Frenchs Farm / Encampment Cove campgrounds. A fairly easy walk to a beautiful bay, which was a whaling site in the 1800s and is home to fairy penguins.
One of the many walks on Maria Island, which is reached by a regular ferry from the town of Triabunna (multiple daily services in summer; less frequent in winter). The distances for this walk are based on starting at Frenchs Farm campground - if starting at Darlington it would be about 46km return via the Coast Road (feasible by bike but a very long day-walk).

Refer to Darlington to Frenchs Farm entry for the first section. From Frenchs Farm, the very sandy track follows the edge of Shoal Bay and along the middle of McRaes Isthmus, the narrow point between the south and north sections of Maria Island. Just after the isthmus there's a junction, with the track to Haunted Bay gradually climbing up to its highest point of 197m before the . There’s a short (1.5km) but steep descent at the end on a narrow bush track
There is a cost for the ferry to reach Maria Island. A National Parks Pass is also required
