Getting There:

Turn left off the Arthur Hwy (A9) 3.5km south of the B37 junction at Taranna onto a gravel forestry road marked Fortescue Bay Camping Area 12km. Follow the signs for the next 12km to Fortescue Bay and park in the Casuarina Day Use Area. Follow the shoreside track to the Mill Creek Camping Area and locate the start of the walking track near the boat ramp and a sign marked Cape Hauy Track 4 hours return. Tasmap: Tasman National Park Walk through forest and coastal heath to the spectacular off-shore sea stacks known as The Lanterns. This walk is not recommended for children due to its unfenced hazardous cliff edges.

Permits/Costs

Tasmania Parks and Wildlife - Parks Pass required....$12.00 for 24 hour pass available from the rangers office on site.

Well tracked walk with a LOT of stairs! I've never done so many stairs before! HAHA! Amazing views!

Did someone say stairs??? As impressive as the cape is, to get there we climbed over 150 flights of stairs. It’s a wonderful part of the world with its cliffs that drop straight down into the ocean along with birdlife and the odd wallaby on the track in front of you. We measured 10.5km and did it in 3.5hrs. It’s a difficult walk because of the steps but anyone with a good level of fitness could do it comfortably. Take walking poles if you have them - makes it so much easier on the poor old knees...especially if you have a plastic and metal one!

Be prepared for steps...lots of steps...great views, lovely walk...around 2,500 stairs.

We did this walk as part of the 3 capes track, absolutely stunning, an amazing adventure. Recommend doing 3 capes 100%!!

This hike has over 3000 steps which made me breathless. The views were sensational which made me more breathless. The only thing that put me off was I had to take the stairs to get back. Would recommend this hike.

Cape Huay is almost impressive as Cape Pillar - and a lot easier to get to (from Fortescue Bay). I visited as part of a longer "Three Capes in One Day" walk.
