The "Sleeping Beauty". Start at Collinsvale and finish at Big Bend (Mt. Wellington). This needs a drop-off and pick up.
A truly rewarding half day hike.
Overall a moderate walk but given the wet and slippery mud at the beginning and the nasty weather that can occur without warning it can be considered a difficult hike.
Collins Bonnet can be climbed from Collinsvale or from Big Bend gate, on Mt Wellington Summit Road (longer).
Up the steep side, gaining quickly altitude through a spectacular Myrtle forest for the first section. A good track keeps climbing towards a fire trail. From here you can see the summit ridge. Follow the trail past a basic emergency cabin and then a well posted track on the right to hop on large blocks to the summit. Weather can be nasty and change rapidly with strong winds. Views 360 are amazing. The descent is via Mt. Connection, back down to the fire trail to a post near a water reserve, marking right. Continue through overgrown thick scrub (but easy to follow track) to the summit of Mt. Connection. From here follow the easy track (long) with a couple of intersections to Big Bend.
