Route/Trail notes

Starting at the end of the horsetail falls boardwalk take the goat track directly behind, sweeps around to the top of the falls where there are great views and swimming if there's enough water, then follow the mountain bike trail up for 30m to start the trail proper, steep, loose crushed granite and weaving around large boulders, the trail is fairly well marked for the first two thirds as it's also being used as a mountain bike trail so be careful of riders. At the top trail peels off to the right rock scrambling up a boulder wash with weathered old timber posts as a guide. Keep heading up to the big cave, then follow the rock stupas on the right to get around behind the cave to come out onto the top of the mountain and panoramic views of the lake and town. Be careful though clouds can come in quickly and drop visibility right down. As a return you can rock scramble down to the radio tower, then follow the service road down
