A pretty walk up through a valley, past an old town water supply dam, following fire roads and up goat tracks to an old pine grove nestled in the bend of a creek
The trail starts at the top end of Cutten street, behind the brick pumphouse
Which maps cover the area?
Starting behind the pumphouse you Traverse along the old water main service track, stepping over cast iron water pipe from the original water source. There's a few nice waterfalls to see in between the abundant man-ferns. Then coming up to the old supply dam the track climbs along the right side of the valley. There's swimming at the dam for the brave, since the water never sees the sun it's usually on the cold side. At the end of the trail take a short scramble up to the right to get onto the fire roads, then it's your first left climbing up some steep sections into the hills. Past the transmission lines continue on straight till you see an aged handmade sign, the goat track starts on the left. Follow the saddle up and down into the creek before a final dogleg up to the pine grove. There's clear room for camping and the pines provide shelter from the morning frost. Good water at the creek too.
Do you need any permits? What's the cost?
