Earlier in the year on our first time up Mt Maroon we met a father and his 5yr old son (and family friend), this little man is surely Australia's version of Sir Edmund Hiliary he just walks and climbs quite an inspiration. Dad writes under Father and Son. on second visit we met a really cool guy in raybans, no water and in top condition - who by the way, was to pass us a second time on that day while we were still going up! Mt Maroon definitely produces some amazing people as you ascend and descend. The spot at the top is small and it's amazing how everyone gets to chat and share their experience. It's a hard tough challenge, not as technical as Mt Barney (which we have not completed) but definitely tests your comfort levels. the section that has the steep downhill, almost glissading down on your butt, is followed by ascending the rocky scrambling gully which was sooooo difficult for me. On his second time up to the summit this guy gave us the critical piece of the puzzle on how to climb up and over "that rock". Thanks! We were sore all over, my husband and I felt uncomfortable with the steepness and "free air" in certain parts, but we continued. All part of our training and prep for the Pacific Crest Trail in the US next year.
