Very hard climb for the inexperienced. I have done A LOT of hiking in my time over all sorts of rough terrain, and I was not expecting this. This is rock climbing and scrambling. Your leg and particularly arm muscles will get a workout. The climb requires a lot of judgement as to wear to place your feet and which nooks in rocks to grab on to to hoist yourself up. It can be very risky at times, and definitely not for the feint hearted. The very start of the rock climbing in itself is a struggle, and a lot people gave up there and then and turned back. TIP: if you are struggling at the start with the slippery rock face, turn left facing the mountain, walk a couple of meters and find a short straight up vertical rock face with lots of little nooks to place your feet and hands in to hoist yourself up to a patch of bush at the top. It's not easy, but I found this easier than the slippery rock face most everyone starts on. I can't stress enough to take LOTS OF WATER! I had just one water bottle, and ran out a quarter of the way up the mountain. Even in the middle of the winter, when the sun is out it gets HOT. It took a 4 hour round trip and I think I would have done the climb faster if I was better hydrated. A lot of people carried camel packs, I regretted not doing this also. Also GOOD SHOES are a must. My Nike's were useless, and I ended up taking them off and going barefooted as they kept making me slip. Also wear old clothes, as the "slide" down the mountain will probably end up ripping your pants, as is what happened to many on the day I climbed, including myself. Beautiful views from the top and a great feeling of accomplishment. Best to go on a completely cloudless day, and DEFINITELY NOT on a day where there is a chance of rain.
