Went up and then back down SE ridge with 2 other mates. Had no previous experience with climbing and navigating through mountains apart from the glasshouses which are very popular and fairly obvious. We had no idea which way to walk, no compass, GPS, and only 1 litre of water between 3 of us with 1 apple and a crossbun each to eat. We were very unpreppared and payed the price of this brutal mountain. Battling severe dehydration and in complete oar from the sheer size and length of this mountain, we managed to make it to the top within 4 1/2 hours of just 'walking straight and up' spent maybe 45 minutes at the top, then climbed back down in about 3 hrs 45 minutes. Really want to do it again, but this time more prepared and solo! a hilarious yet painful experience we will never forget. p.s they aren't lying when they say 9hr return ! |
