Easy hike, bit sloppy in places after some rain, took approx. 3 hours with couple of brief rest breaks, lovely scenery, bring a jacket, bit fresh here & there

Cooler day but you’ll need plenty of water & sunscreen, definetly swim it’s the best reward after a decent aerobic hike to the portals, boots or decent joggers advisable, cple small creek crossings, be prepared to get wet, some mild rock hopping to access the water hole, took roughly 3 hours with a good rest at the water hole, great walk, saw plenty of kids, some as young as 4 walking, good family adventure, a goanna even popped by in search of scraps

I read it was easy to lose the trail on the way back down, people it is true & easier than you think bc it's been really dry lately. I tried several routes but had to keep coming back to the section where I could find a marker, the large boulders & overhanging rocks can hide tracks. I was persistent for two hours before having to call Rathdowney Police to ping my location & a very clever Constable led me back to the track. The cliffs are shear & dry leaves and scree makes it very slippery. I'm an experienced hiker but was more than a little scared after taking a few slides. Thankfully I did not need to sleep in the mountain, but was looking like a real possibility, with no one else on the trail that day. I will not go it alone again & dint mind admitting I underestimated the risks. I had 3 litres of water, a portable phone charger, blanket, food & torch & a compass, so was well equipped. Just beware the elusive track, maybe someone could place a few more markers along the way next time you're heading up? QPS did mention they've rescued a number of hikers recently. Oh, sorry: views were amazing!!

I walked from a beautiful B&B on Allara Rd: Allara Homestead to the entrance to the circuit & did the 4.4 km circuit, beautiful easy walk with plenty to see including a red bellied black & a large goanna on the track. There hadn't been a lot of rain so the waterfall wasn't flowing, but the rock pool made up for it. My hike in total was all up was roughly 10km, would definitely go again, though there was plenty of foot traffic being a peak period, it would be hard to get a close parking spot during this time. |
