I started out down Toolona creek way, not long after sunrise. Just before reaching Picnic rock I had my 1st wild dogs encounter, I saw 2. Being by myself I freaked, thought of turning back, then figured if they wanted to attack me they'd get me regardless. They jumped back up into the bush, I picked up and carried a rock for while (not that it really could of helped anyways) I'm not a wildlife expert, so I have no idea what to do if they actually did approach me. The bush and waterfalls were beautiful, track a bit wet, muddy, slippery and narrow in some parts but no leeches today. Took just over 4hrs and that was stopping often to take many pics and soak up the Nature. This track is not hard, however definitely has a few sections which require caution and care.
Mount Beerwah Summit (Glass House Mountains National Park) |

The 1st time I climbed Beerwah one of our team had to be rescued by SES on the way down. So returning, for me, was a mental challenge. This mountain definitely offers one of the best climbs and views. If possible go with someone who is familiar with climbing this, as there are a few sections I found a bit sketchy, scary and if I made a mistake it could of been disastrous. I've seen many scale Beerwah upright and easy like a mountain goat, however, I often felt safer taking the lizard clutching approach.

After falling in love with Mt Maroon my 1st climb, it was necessary to come back again, this time we tried for sunrise. The weather forecast just before we left Gold Coast had said it would be sunny, by the time we got there it was surrounded in cloud. In hope the clouds were briefly visiting, we begun walking up. We lost the track a couple of times heading across, towards the base of the gorge, in the dark, so many (possible) tracks become visable. However, remembering a few landmarks/rocks from the previous climb, helped get us back on track. Going up the gorge, it began to rain a bit. We continued slowly and cautiously. When reaching the summit, still cloaked in cloud and mist, we noticed someone had knocked down the cairn that was stacked last time. After a while up top the clouds began to clear, sun glowed and some of the amazing views below were being revealed. I really enjoy Mt Maroon, 1st section up is great for the lungs and legs, gorge is a fun climb, up top there is so much to explore and the views of scenic rim, Mt Barney, Mt Lindsay etc are breathtaking. |

1st time up and it has easily become one of my favorites. The 1st section up a bit of a challenge for lungs and legs, the 2nd part trying to navigate through big boulders close to the cliffs edge, the gorge climb up, initially daunting yet in the zone was fun and the views just keep getting better. Once up the top section, I can see how it's easy to lose your path as there are a few tracks. We explored. Navigated to the middle summit then the highest summit where the cairn is. Views are divine! Need to return to explore the other summit soon.
Bellbird Lookout (Lamington National Park) |

Short, easy walk to do in the dark with headlamps. Pre sunrise the valley below was misty and magical, then when the sun rose it just got better! We returned via a cliff track that ended down the road from the retreat and walked back up.

I've been exploring up O'Reillys many times before and wanted to take some friends for an introductory Nature adventure. We stopped to watch the sun rise on our drive up. The tree walk was 1st on the list, a bit challenging for a couple to climb up, but they did and they loved it. Then it was necessary to go check out Python rock and Moran falls.

I've been up a few times before, solo and with others. This is a great hike to work on your fitness. This time, we went up for sunrise. The higher we got, the thicker the cloud got, making the chain climb a bit wet, slippery but still fun. Up on the main lookout it was windy and freezing, however the next lookout was more sheltered and the sunrise was still visable. Sadly there was a huge bag of rubbish left up top... come on people, look after Our Planet!

3rd time I've done this track but the 1st time I was lucky enough to see the famous Lamington blue cray, not just one but they were everywhere. It had rained a few days before, so the track was a bit muddy and slippery in some spots but still relatively easy going, with only 2 leeches spotted and removed from my friends shoes. So many waterfalls. So many beautiful spots for pictures.

3rd time climbed. 2nd time for sunrise. Honestly I think sunrise up here is the best way to go. Besides the 360° views and colours, it's much cooler and I find climbing or scrambling up the last section, by headlamp was less daunting. I know some run up and down this, but if it's your 1st time up, take care, especially on the middle section where there is loose, sliding rocks. |
