This is a very remote walk. Access to the carpark is down a gravel forestry road, about an hour from the nearest town of Mole Creek. The road is signed so way to follow. From the carpark it's 1-2 hours to Trappers hut up a rough (but easy to follow) inclined track. From there it's maybe another 1-2 hours across a level track past beautiful lakes, tarns and alpine forest to the Wild Dog Creek camp site. The site has wood camping platforms and a long drop toilet. Bring extra rope to tie down the tent since you can't stake it with pegs. The easiest way to do the Walls is to spend Day 2 as a day trip inside the Walls, leaving your heavy bag at the campsite. You can see all the main sights in a day. I think you can camp at Dixon's Kingdom in the walls but it is discouraged. Walk out on day 3. Be prepared for rough weather up there. Snow occurs all year round apparently and gales are pretty normal. |

Good walk, Didn't see too many other people around. The track was narrow but well maintained, but the surrounding scrub is really dry and weedy. I did the walk anticlockwise, and the second half of the walk was better as there were more views of the reservoir. There are some unmarked turnoffs about halfway through that you need to keep left on, otherwise you will venture into the nearby National Park. |
