Mt Joyce Summit Walk (South East Queensland)

Drive to the very end of the road there is a large car park but no shade at all. Then walk back the road for approx. 100 metres and you will find the gate (a No Parking sign right in front of it) on your left hand side. Follow a wide and exposed track for approx. 500 metres then it's the real trailhead.
We did the loop as follows: clockwise on the multi-use Shoreline track (Red), it's quite pretty indeed. Then followed the multi-use Grass Tree track (Green), it's quite steep in parts and provides good views when we hike higher and higher. Then followed a narrow walking path (White) all the way to the submit - it's just a tiny unmarked flat area. The views are great. Came back all the way via the white track leading back to the red track. The white track coming back down is steep (even more so than the green track so it's better go up via the green and get back via the white).
Overall it's a decent hike with pretty views. Took us 4 hours. It's a little harder than expected, should have carried more water and some snacks. Normal trainers/running shoes will suffice.
Warning: most of the tracks aren't shady enough and certain sections are quite exposed. I am glad we did it on an overcast day. Doing it on a hot sunny day would be a bad idea.
Barker Creek Circuit (Bunya Mountains)
30 Dec, 2021
Easy
10km return
3 hrs
Lovely and easy forest walk. I don't think it matters much doing it clockwise or anticlockwise. The Bunya pine trees are amazing, the waterfalls aren't really falls, all are merely drips from rocky cliffs.
I would say there is no need to do the short side track to the Big Falls Lookout & Barker Creek Lookout because the views are a bit obstructed. If you walk clockwise you would have already enjoyed the best expansive view over the valley on the main track; if you walk anti-clockwise then just keep going.
Mt Sorrow Ridge Walk (Daintree National Park)
2 Oct, 2021
Hard
8.5km return
5.5 hrs
Great half day hike, not extremely difficult but reasonable fitness is required. As the host of our B&B said, the most difficult part is finding the trail head.
If you are driving from the south like us, keep driving along Cap Trib Road towards the direction of Kulki Boardwalks then the road will naturally becomes Rykers Road. Approx. 2-3 mins you will see a big sign "No camping on this National Park north of this section" on the right and a tiny car park for a few cars. This is where you park. Cross the road and you shall see a sign "Mt Sorrow Ridge Trail". It's difficult to spot it because it's lower than the road level. I've attached some photos that will help.
Thankfully the entire trail is shady all the way up so you don't need to start real early. The steepest and thus the most challenging section of the trail has ropes/chains to hold on so it's not too bad. Just need some upper body strength to pull yourself up. Good sturdy boots and plenty of water are a must.
The view at the viewing platform at the summit is quite obstructed. Apparently most hikers climb over the platform and keep walking on the ridge for less than 15 mins to a small opening that offers stunning views. Coming back down isn't hard but feel long.
Lower Bellbird Circuit (Lamington National Park)
15 Aug, 2021
Medium
12km return
3 hrs
The information on the national park website is confusing and unclear about closure and detour.
The lady at Binna Burra's information centre said the Bellbird track is partially closed indefinitely. I've uploaded a map showing where is it (see the blue lines).
That said, we can still enjoy the walk from Saddle trailhead, pass 2 beautiful lookouts marked in the map, go down to Lower Ballunjui Falls (water is still running but not strong), then return the same way. All up it's about 12km. We stopped at both lookouts and snacked at the falls, and finished in 3 hours at a moderate pace. It's a shady, pleasant and not difficult walk.
