Loads more people on the track than I was expecting. Generally pretty happy with the level of difficulty, and the amount of car parking was almost impressive. Lots of happy people looking forward to the reward at the top.

Had some time to kill before wi had to hike into my camp spot so took the opportunity to take in this walk on a truly glorious day. The photos never do these spots justice.

Blissful little walk on a Monday morning I'm the wee hours. And still warm enough to justify taking the boots off for a shallow yet refreshing wade. Would love to take in more of the waterways in the park if this is an example.

Picked a cracking day to start the trip. Beautiful weather on the way in, but over estimated my capabilities and was like the walking dead after having completed a couple of other tracks in the same morning. Second night came the storm. Third day, hike out day, came unrelenting rain. Still got to see South Bald Rock with water teeming down it and into Racecourse creek. Gotta love silver linings.

Lovely temperature starting at 6am. Few people around. Then back to lounge around in the breeze.

Nice day for a walk. Glad it was breezy because us "well insulated" fellas feel the heat. I was a little surprised to see so many pig trotter prints in the dried mud. No roos and no koalas spotted (and I was treading lightly & looking closely), but at least three goannas that weren't stoked to see me. Lovely reasonably easy track.
Mount Coolum (Sunshine Coast) |

Mount Coolum is a nice, reasonably quick, but challenging hike for the general public and should be researched by infrequent hikers before attempting. Steps have been formed for ease of access through the entirety of the easterly facing climb with exception only for areas where the rock face provides natural step treads. Whilst there is a rope barrier on iron uprights alongside the path it would be a stretch to call it a handrail or supportive in any meaningful way. Upon reaching the summit you'll be treated to vistas reaching to the ocean's horizon in the East, Northern Moreton island, the Glasshouse mountains, and lovely bird's eye views of the sunshine coast overall. Stick to the track and you'll encounter more than a handfull of folks who make this experience part of their daily routine. Highly recommended.

Lovely walk, if not challenging as far as traction is concerned in a few places. Definitely could do with some more obvious signage for the route itself. But the few short "detours" were pleasant in any case. |
