Mt. Wellington - Zigzag/Icehouse loop (Wellington Park)

Medium
8.26km return
3 hrs
Walked from the Springs to the summit via Ice House track and returned by bus.
We have walked a lot around Lamington and Sunshine Coast hinterland. We’re a little out of practice and this took us by surprise. I’m now 60 and my wife 56. Both fit and active.

In summary a fantastic hike. Strava reckoned it was 6.3km from the springs to the summit. 2h 9m moving, add a few rest stops.

Weather was perfect. No rain for a few days, sunshine 21C.

The tracks are not always easy to find. There’s an open section at around 2 to 3km where you keep going in the same direction through a boulder field aiming for the saddle in the hill and the path reforms.

You head right after a long climb and it’s then not so steep.
Highly recommend good boots with grippy soles and ankle support, the whole walk is stepping from rock to rock.

In summary, be fit, be prepared, lots of info on the mountain on what to take with you, all good advice.

The bottom line is this is the most challenging and enjoyable walk we’ve done in years
