I revisited this Mountain first time in two years after a serious leg injury, had forgotten what a challenge it was and had notices alot of erosion since last climbing it, however it was achievable and not so busy like Coolum, though I would definitely say a completely different grading to Coolum, this Mountain does require scrambling a fair bit where you have to mindfully choose both foot holes and hand holes to lever yourself up, I crab crawled on my back side some areas on the descent , I noticed some turn round facing the mountain doing it this way. but a sense of achievement when completed and the view at the top is definitely one of the better ones.

We did this walk yesterday,,one thing worth noting the road you turn down is Mt Eerwah Road,,and the little entry point is on the left hand side even though from the road the mountain is on the right,,so thankful for the kind walker who provided the ropes on the steep gully and the tree markers or we would have definitely got lost..I would say it was a fun adventurous climb,,not one you would put all the effort in if you just enjoy the view,,however a few lovely views from the ridge,,hold onto the rope though,,and when you get to the top.. .Definitely only attempt when the weather has been dry as I can imagine it would be really difficult if wet and you would get covered in mud..we were pleasantly surprised with this rather unknown gem,,unspoilt ,,no helping hand steps ,,a fun climb and very different,,so hard to compare with any other local mountains,,but quite steep,,with lots of trees vines to pull yourself up with...

Did this climb for the 7th time this year,,each time I think it's gotta get easier,,it seems just as challenging,,but am getting better..the forest bit even before you get to the metal steps is quite steep,,then you get to a small rock formation to the right and this is where the real climb starts..stunning views along the way,,and even the fittest will not miss them as most climbers do stop to catch their breath,, the steps do seem never ending and theres a chain along the left hand side,,useful in parts where the steps end and you have to rely on strangely enough strategically placed foot holes in the rock. then not long before you reach to top,,the steps end and its a fun scramble to get there,,you can walk along the ridge to the right absolutely stunning views from both sides,,and take in the scenery and landmarks...The descent down is fun and we generally crab crawl until we reach the steps,,I always find this mountain a physical but very satisfying climb,,and always finish off with a nice coffee after in Pomona...It is far more challenging in my opinion than Coolum,,plus if at all possible avoid weekends and bank holidays as it's very busy.. |
