Minyon Grass to Base of Minyon Falls

Nightcap National Park

This walk is the shorter alternative to the Minyon Loop (4 - 5 hr). It follows the Minyon Loop track from the Minyon Grass picnic grounds down along Repentance Creek to the base of the falls. The last 100m of the walk (to get to the waterfall base and pool) is scrambling up large boulders. Be careful when it's wet as the rocks can be very slippery. The majority of this walk is of medium difficultly however the scramble at the end lifts the difficulty to hard.

Wet and gushy 💧 An essential in the Northern Rivers waterfall trail 💦
Relatively easy until the last section where you have to rock scramble up to the waterfall base. Everything is super slippery rn because of the rain so be careful. Water flow was inteeeeeense, like u don't even need to hop in the rockpool for a swim to get wet. Just standing by the water is enough from the mist 💧

🌼💐 Cool flora spots: Heaps of fungi like coral fingers, turkey tails, and jelly mushrooms. Mass colonies of stream lily. A beautiful blotched hyacinth orchid 💜 And another small green orchid that I presume to be a mosquito orchid of some sort.

The drive on the dirt track to the carpark is tricky in a sedan non 4WD as some of the old run off ditches are deep, however we made it.
The walking track itself is great - an excellent hike. If you wish to cross the rocky river to get to the base of the falls, and the water level is quite high - I would recommend hiking shoes that grip well and aren't too heavy. Lots of leeches, one got me good on my shin. Scenery and views are stunning!

Relatively easy walk thru rainforest. Last bit over rocks was tricky as can be slippery. Falls were spectacular after recent rain tho spray wet you considerably.

Popular area, saw plenty of people and some kids doing the walk on a Saturday. Can be slippery in the later parts as you get near the waterfall.

Great views, and plenty of places to get in for a dip.

Took some couchsurfers here and we really enjoyed this walk. It was quite a hot day but we had plenty of shade so the walk wasn't overly difficult. Rock scrambling at the base of the falls was fun! Take a picnic and enjoy lunch under the majestic waterfall.

If you have mobility issues then you might have trouble with this one. It's quite steep and could be muddy after the rain.

The track was a bit muddy but worth it to see the base of the waterfall. In my opinion the 10 min scramble at the end is a bit too dangerous, especially when wet.

I use to do this walk as a kid with Mum, Dad and brother. Bought back my partner to show her how wonderful it is.
