North Gorge Walk (Point Lookout)

Straddie’s impressive headland walk called the North Gorge walk is located at the north western end of Point Lookout and is the best vantage point on the island to watch the whales and marine life pass right before your eyes.
The walk encompasses the best of both worlds, with its raw and jagged headland to one side, and natural bushland on the other. Known for its best viewing experience of migrating humpback whales, the Gorge Walk also has a unique rock formation called the ‘Blow Hole’, similar to that of a humpback whale. The Gorge Walk is a North Stradbroke Island icon and reveals just how pristine and unspoiled the island truly is.
Access to the Gorge Walk is on Moloomba Road at Point Lookout, opposite Fishes Cafe and the Oceanic Gelati Shop.

Getting there

Barges and Water Taxis run to Dunwich. Once on the island either drive to Pt Lookout or catch the local bus. (http://www.stradbrokeholidays.com.au/getting-here/)

Route/Trail notes

The walk starts from Mooloomba Rd opposite the shops at the top of the hill. The track is easy to follow and returns to the same spot.

This is such an easy and beautiful walk at any time of year. There is always wildlife to be seen. We didn't see whales on this occasion but there were many kangaroos, turtles and fish. This is a walk that we do over and over again.

Awsome scenic walk. Plenty of sealife to be seen. Saw 3 turtles, 2 manta rays, 2 sea eagles and plenty of dolphins in the distance.

Lovely walk. Very easy all along the water. There are a few points where you can descend the rock and looking at the horizon. You can spot typical animals like tartlets, dolphins and eagles. I was with my partner Dion, his dad and his two young siblings. We enjoy it and we recommend it. Not sure how long it took l was too busy looking around, taking photos and spotting animals 😀

Great walk, lots of wildlife (kangaroos, turtles, birds)... great for kids but supervision is definitely needed as access to cliff edges throughout walk!

Love this walk!! do it every time I am in Straddie. Is well marked with a proper fence, not like how it used to be. Definitely recommend as it is so scenic and beautiful.

I have had the pleasure of doing this walk several times throughout my childhood and adult life. I would consider it a very short and easy walk, with amazing views of the gorge. @teniille instagram
