Route/Trail notes:

From the Information Centre head to the Tropical Display Dome and onto the Fern House and pick up the roadway to the left of the Japanese Garden. Follow the road up past the Lookout, National Freedom Way to the Botanic Gardens Lookout. From here, follow the road to the left and after about 500m, there is a pathway to your right that takes you up past the Lake and Water Fountain and at the top take a pathway left to the top car park.

At the bottom of that car park is an entry gate to the Mt Coot-tha Reserve. Follow the steep uphill track along the fence line to your right, past the quarry till you intersect Sir Samuel Griffith Drive. Cross the road and pick up the path left that takes you to the top of the road, where you walk left along the road to the lookout.

Permits/Costs:

None.

It was nice to start in the botanic gardens although does mean you have to wait until they open and you can’t get a super early start. I came back via the summit track and walked back to the car along the road which was just over 8km. Nice steep walk

A good alternative to the bitumen summit walk.

A day out at the Botanic Gardens ended with an exhaustive walk to Mt Coot-tha summit lookout on a very warm afternoon. And yes, I got a lift back down!
